The Georgia Department of Cosmetology and Optometry received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education in April for expanding its practice.
The Georgia State Board of Cosmedicine and Optometrists also awarded a $2 million grant in September for an additional 10 years to expand its practice, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The board of cosmetological schools approved the funding through a special legislative session last year.
The grant will allow the Georgia Board of Medicine and Surgery to increase its practice size from 15 to 50 patients per year.
It also allows the board to expand the number of physicians it has to accept patients and to accept a new form of licensing.
Georgia is among the states that requires all cosmeticians to have a license.
